The son is in his 40s. In phased-payout trusts (which this probably is) that’s usually the time the remainder of the inheritance is handed over and that part of the trust is closed out. It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with being a responsible parent or grandparent.

It’s standard practice to do it that way with large trusts. As my lawyer says, you never know what will happen to a person between age 18 (when a minor inherits it's a different legal situation) and 25.
