People are only responding to it because of who’s involved. I wouldn’t say the joke is harmless though. It just contributes to the widely held belief that women are sluts if they’ve had more than one sexual partner whereas men are congratulated for having twice or thrice that amount.

I think the full apology is even worse. It starts:

Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.

Yeah Renner’s made me uncomfortable since that interview about how much he sympathized with the neo-Nazi he was playing in “Neo Ned.”

Right? No one’s judging the men for going after the same woman. It’s obviously her fault for having a vagina, amirite? It 100% parallels a lot of people’s real life experiences. Like, were they talking about Widow or my freshman year in college?

So if I use a racial slur as a joke, that's okay? And if not, why then is a gendered slur like slut okay as a joke?

I mean, as a woman, yes, I found it personally offensive. Men have no idea what it’s like to constantly have the terms slut & whore thrown in your face for literally any behavior some guy doesn’t approve of. So when I see two movie stars carelessly calling a female character a slut because she’s playing the field/not

Sorry but:

Exactly. Bruce doesn’t apparently get any kind of hate over it. It’s just boys being boys, amirite?

His douchey reputation doesn’t help either.

misogyny

Hntrss13 and I had a pretty long conversation about the slut comments yesterday, and having slept on it, I still feel uncomfortable with the entire thing.

I am going to shamelessly steal what someone else said about this on another forum: “I guess that’s why one of them is Captain America and one is Black Widow’s sidekick.”

how exactly would I forgive Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner when I’m not angry enough (read: not angry at all) to require forgiveness?

I think the outrage is about how casually they were calling a female character a slut and whore. It was not funny and really lazy of both of them. Especially since both know Scarlett ,who portrays the character, and how she hates being asked dismissive questions. And the apology from Renner is even worse. At least

If the Marvel movies and merch had better female representation, this probably would have been a non-issue—two tired and punchy actors who said something stupid without thinking. But since it happened the same day as the news that Black Widow has been left off of nearly all the movie merch (and the issue of female

Further evidence that Chris Evans is actually Captain America.

This only furthers my belief that Jeremy Renner is really and truly an asshole.

1.) Give Blue Ivy a reality show and cancel Patti Stanger. I think Blue Ivy would be a lot more open to short/pale/red-headed/curly-haired women and would not shame them as Patti does.

That is the cutest little baby matchmaker story and I love it. I got all the feels.
