heatsoak is really not an issue with rally cars in practical application because of the constant flow of air from the scoop. Front mounts are easily damaged and that results in even more issues. Rugged and reliable equals top mount. tuning can be done around the "shortcomings" and only the WRC and open class

HEY!!! I know that scooby. I know exactly where it is sitting and I know what it would take to get it titled and running well. It could easily be a real nice car for under $8k and is easy to register if you swap the VIN plates from a USDM 1995 Subaru that is headed to the crusher. Not 100% legal but no one would be

@dorkusmaximus: Yeah, the upper dash cupholders on Imprezas are the only useless feature, I gotta agree with that. I actually never use mine, the console cup holder is ok, but I just use the German approach and don't expect to drink while driving.

How is it possible to get mileage like that without being a HYBRID!?!?!?! OMG can every one sense the sarcasm? good.

I'm devastated, as is the rest of the worldwide rally family. We will press on regardless as Colin would have insisted. I feel the loss closely as a rallyist and as a Scot, my grandmother's family is from Lanak as was McRae.

I'd like one in Red, one in White and one in Blue, I'm American God damn it!! So hot, if anyone find a loophole to bring the RS* Avants here I will definitely buy one.

Renault "Appliance" Alliance, we called it an appliance because it was big, white sheetmetal that didn't move. Can you believe that the 1983 was C&D Car of the Year!!! [en.wikipedia.org]

In-wheel EV with active center diff?? I wonder how they manage that!!

definitely the Sebring, the Merc R Class-less and the Caliber. I saw these in the same day that I saw a black and a yellow Aztek and I felt less revulsion at the Aztek's than the other three offenders.

I keep catching a few all white cayman S and of course the few 997 GT3s that I see. Also the new Altima Coupe. Of course the RS4 and RS6 also get me browsing the web and showing my girlfriend how nice the interiors are. But then I remember that I like to race the rally car and that trumps any of those.

@CEman: You must be new around here, Jalop had almost daily robogasms for the six or seven months leading up to and during the first week or so that the movie was out. A fter that, not so much. Apparently any Transformers "news" bring back the wood.

so the love affair between Jalopnik and Transformers is thankfully over?!

This is really a non issue. Any police officer with any respect for the public would offer an unlicensed driver the opportunity to park the car or have a licensed driver take it away. The only time I would see an officer enforcing the impounding is when there is no one to take the car away. They do the same thing

Enough with the sucking off of Wes, the post title is "Driving the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10" None of the numerous words Wes has used describe anything about driving the car. Either retitle the post to be something witty about press give aways or sunglesses or get to the tech of driving the actual car. If this is the

Good on you with the historics coverage, if Jalopnik does this well enough it might compensate for so much HHR coverage, the Woodward dream-gasm and the fact that the West Coast Jalops drove right through Gorman the weekend that the Gorman Ridge Rally is being held without stopping to snap at least one pic of real

so the muscle and classic cars guys are learning what the unwanted attention feels like. I wonder how the media would react if it were an equal number of "sport import" cars/drivers??? I'd bet cries of "street racing hoonage" would shut it down post haste, yet these guys complain if they get a ticket for doing

@Smokescreen: You are lucky to live close to a bunch of rally oming up in the next three months. Check out the Laughlin rally (in November) that is actually on roads in the Kingman area as well as Quartzite (in Spetember) and Prescott (in October) rallies, both in Arizona as well.

@Evander: legal rally cars can be had for under $5k. rally is definitely not as cheap as grassroots drag racing or autoX, but it definitely doesn't cost $140K+ to go racing. I pilot a 2001 Subaru RS that our team put together from scratch for under $7k.

There's a reason top rally cars are AWD and that is the same reason that AWD was legislated out of almost every sanctioning body or now carries such crazy restrictions that it is uncompetitive.

Tombstone rallycrosses in Corona CA. I won't say any more but there was practically a class for those of us on "Team E". Sentras, Focii and Lancers are fun to flog.
