Best thing besides a screen protector is clear packaging tape, it won't fall off and the digitizer doesn't have any issues detecting your finger. Tape it up and use a razor blade to cut it down to size (the gap between the glass and the plastic frame).

What they need to figure out how to do is let you highlight the text (which then creates an annotation related to just the words you have selected). Think of it like highlighting on a piece of paper.
