Right, because no one buys Christmas gifts in May because they are on sale and then holds onto them until Christmas... this is a totally weird Steam thing /s

It really depends on how the software is built, but as a software engineer, let me assure you that it is -entirely- possible to segregate the offline and online clients in a way that makes the online client no less secure. In fact, the offline client need not even be connected to the online client, they could be

Your tune has seriously changed from your first post that i was replying to, you know the one where you tried to make acidrain69's opinion seem idiotic by slathering on the sarcasm and implying he was wrong just because lots of people bought the game (a logical fallacy btw, see argumentum ad populum). Ironically,

That'll require exactly 1.2 Gigawatts!

I love it when they start to dance around the subject and backtrack.. the bottom line is that Golwar implied that secure online gaming and offline multiplayer were mutually exclusive, Tom pointed out that idea was patently false since an offline client need never even talk to the online server, you called him dumb for

I won't comment on the clear baiting that the article partakes in, but i will comment on why i think it's silly for a gaming site to run an article like this, being as anyone can see that pushing your own agenda through the use of games a metaphor is hardly the same as writing an article -about- games...

And as I've said to those others, to act like the only two options are to love the game and never express any negative opinions, or to shut up and never touch it, is downright silly. Your overly simplified view of the situation makes your opinion look cartoonish.

It seems you are the one who needs to work on your reading comprehension. The suggestion was the there was some tradeoff in security for adding a single player offline mode. Anyone reading at a fourth grade level could follow at least that much but you seem to have missed it.

Right, again because to an apologist there are only two points of view, black/white, love/hate. Play the game with a huge smile and two thumbs up and keep your mouth shut about absolutely anything you dislike, or don't ever even look at it. You're not a realist, you're a caricature.

Don't be dumb? He clearly knows more than you. Segregating the offline accounts (stored locally on your machine) from the online accounts (which would live exactly as they do today on Bliz's servers and have the exact same security they do today) would've provided the ~90% of players who will never use the real money

And yet, I'm certain that there were many at Blizzard who, even as they wrote the code that would ultimately take a dump all over their customers, knew it was an aweful terrible idea. Frankly, the only way this doesn't happen again is if Blizzard is punished for it by their consumers... but they won't be...

Right, cause "everyone else puts up with it so it must be cool" is the apologist argument of the week. It's a single player game that doesn't work when you (or Bliz's servers) aren't online... if you can't see the problem there, get yourself checked out.

Don't you know, you should be grateful for any game time you are given by the great masters of gaming at EA and Activision... Frankly, i think that would've made for some truly great enemies in D3, the new prime evils EA, lord of overpriced DLC and killer of server support and Activision, lord of DRM... be afraid, be

a) Interestingly, I originally spelled it chattel and the browsers spellchecker complained so I changed it... either way, if you are completely ok with giving a game company your money and then letting their nonsense DRM keep you from playing it, all in the name of keeping you from duping items so that they can

Or you have an outrageously high bar for nonsense... most chattal do.

So in short, greed... yeah, that pretty much sums up the whole of gaming now that it's been mainstreamed.

I was, of course, referring to my own town when i said that the gamecrazy was vastly superior (in terms of experience... afraid pricewise there is no room for argument there).

I actually worked at GameCrazy while in college. The training videos were every bit as bad as they look and not just that one.

My vote would definitely go the the Harmony One if only they would add Bluetooth support to a future version. The current solution of buying a $50 adapter for your PS3 is sad and more and more tech is switching to Bluetooth :(

It's a shame now that all of the cuts are budget based limitations instead of technology limitations. :(
