Battlefront II had a pretty half arsed space game wedged in. With Frostbite engine I would be surprised if III didn't have at least that much.

The covenant had larger harder to kill enemies with shields and they used tactics, dodged grenades (which was amazing at the time), tactically retreated, and could switch from ranged to melee combat seamlessly.
