In January this year I bought an i5 2500K processor, motherboard, 8gb RAM, and 64gb SSD on sale for $250 (CAD). In January 2011 I bought a new GTX 460 and PSU for $250 (CAD) as upgrades for my previous (5 Year old) computer.

I'm in the same boat. Probably won't buy until mid next year but it is quickly becoming more certain that I will eventually own one of these. Just needs a few released games that really pique my interest

If his iPad2 is wifi only and he bought it as an internet tablet then the upgrade basically removed the usefulness of that device. The iPhone is in a similar situation especially if their data plan doesn't have a large cap.
