I should have phrased it better:
a time out to calmly look them in the eye and rationalize them actual works.
If there is a well-developed system of schoolwide positive behavior intervention and supports, including restorative justice, incidents like this are less likely to happen in the first place.
And then get fired:
the best thing to do is to separate the antagonists from their peer audience. Once they have no face to lose, they calm down swiftly.
Oh and i’m sure they would have worked out just fine too.
