Or maybe they do employ these “big words” when they are appropriate, but did not feel it was necessary to use them to make their point in this case? Thus proving that they don’t just use “fancy words” to sound smart when they aren’t necessary?

I don’t disagree with you at all, unless you’re using the words to appear superior or impress. I’d say that actually “dumbing down” language is rude as hell to both yourself and company in a lot of conversations. It assumes the recipients need dumbing down to, or are unable to keep up.

I’m not down with this anti-intellectualism. I have a large vocabulary. I use the words I know with the closest meaning to what I am trying to say. It means sometimes I use words other people don’t know. Fancy words are fun to learn and say!
A few of those aren’t terrible. My rule of thumb is if it’s something most of the population knows the definition of, it’s fine. Like plethora. Everyone knows what plethora means.
I could debate the use of a few of these. Like, you should use “synergy” or whatever in an interview if you’re going for a corporate customer service type job. They eat that shit up.
I get the idea of calling folks on being pretentious, however dumbing down your language skills so you don’t appear to be elitist is short-minded. There is randomness in Magic, but that’s almost purely card draw. (And that can be mitigated to some degree). In Magic, cards with effects that are random almost immediately get binned as “not consistent enough”. But so many cards and “good” decks in Hearthstone involve an element of dice rolling (RNG for effect)…
There’s a lot more randomness in Hearthstone than other card games though. In Hearthstone it isn’t just the card draw, it’s also that so many cards actually use an RNG element in their effects.

I know others may point to girl and guy groups that have much harder hitting lyrics and meanings and what not, but I started listening to Twice in one of the most stressful times in my life and sometimes I just need cheerful, happy music. Same thing with Highlight (formerly B2ST), once they reformed as Highlight,…
