God, they are such hypocrites. Joan Burton coming out the other week saying that she thinks the 8th amendment should be repealed. Except, a couple of days before that, there was a vote in the Dáil on whether it should be repealed, and she didn't bother voting. Nor did most Labour TDs.

It's hard to explain why (some of) our laws are so conservative, despite your average Irish person being pretty liberal (by American standards). I think it all comes down to a government who ALWAYS err on the conservative side, due to the fact that older, rural, conservative Catholics are a LOT more likely to vote.

I have only started to appreciate Santa Baby this year, and it really fucking resonates with me. (I have obviously become 10x more materialistic this year.)

There can only be one: Fairytale of New York by the Pogues. I have no idea how big this song is in countries that aren't Ireland, but I can comfortably say it's the best song ever written.

It's such an excuse. It's so easy to talk yourself out of going to the gym, and saying "skinny bitches" are judging you gives you that excuse. Like, if skinny girls looking at them made them stop exercising, I can't imagine they were very dedicated to it in the first place.

Holy shit.

I think they're different dialects, but they both speak Korean.

Thanks for saying that! It's so great to see young (and older, of course!) Americans becoming more and more liberal, and standing up against old structures - like the protests that are going on right now.

EXACTLY. The way that American propaganda has leaked into other English-speaking countries is genuinely terrifying. (And occasionally hilarious. I literally have people on my newsfeed that share videos of, like, American troops coming home and surprising loved ones or whatever. And it's like??? They're not our army???

Oh god, the "we're just trying to keep women SAAAAFE!" defence... It's a popular one too. Obviously women are pretty much children who don't know what they want, so we need priests and politicians to make our decisions for us!

Aw, you don't need to be sorry, ALL my rage is directed at conservatives!

I can't describe how unfair it feels to have conservatives from another country (i.e. the US) dictate our domestic laws.

Exactly! I seriously recommend The Evening Star if you haven't read it. It's about Robert's Rebellion, from the point of view of Ashara Dayne. It's absolutely devastating, and fits in perfectly with canon.

Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering why dairy tasted so different there.

As a European, this is painfully true. Peanut butter M&Ms changed me.

Oh god. I know Robin Thicke has that self-flagellating take-me-back song, but I've never actually listened to it, so I'm just picturing this website with Blurred Lines on autoplay. And it is fucking hilarious.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that! :( I'm glad you have someone to help you through it!

I couldn't get into the Vampire Diaries either! I watch Reign, Supernatural and the 100... But I definitely have room for more CW in my life!

I LOVED Nathan. Luckily, he was in an Irish show after he left Misfits so I got to see plenty more of him :) but the new guy in Misfits actually grew on me quite a lot!
