I'm curious since it seems like a pretty cool little toy - Comparatively speaking, how much does something like that cost over there? Don't want to get into specific exchange rates - but is it like Corolla priced? Or what we have to pay for a Wrangler over here?

These things are pulling hipster value - and unless this car was kept in a air conditioned garage, the plastics inside are still crap and falling to pieces. My last car was a base E46 wagon. Non-car friends would come up and say, Wow, you drive a BMW!? They would then get this look about them like I was way out of their league, spoiled, rich (we'll let you pay for dinner, Mr. BMW).

As close as they got to that twister, and as stationary and steady as the filming was, these guys probably just added more to tornado research then half the Storm Chasers out there. You don't need an awesome armored car to chase storms. You just need to be a drunk redneck with a cell phone camera!

Aside from being Tom Cruise's car in Rain Man, I don't know much about these cars. So I looked up current values - looks like they're in 328 territory ($25k-ish). So no real need to shed tears.

Same deal here (in Boston). My wife had a minor hit in rush-hour traffic, at night, in the rain. After checking out the car, she didn't see any damage so just got the lady's digits and plate and kept going.

If you're going to put MB hatch on this list, you have to add the BMW 318ti. Unfortunately, the jalopnikers are probably so in love with the 318ti that you couldn't possibly handle the ensuing flame war that would probably result some short man in an E46 M3 tweeting you from outside your home.

My friends from Europe look at me like an idiot when I get excited about wagons. From what I understand, they're all over the place in Europe - I guess it would be akin to getting excited over an Accord sedan over here.

You're 100% correct - there are no immediate competitors in this class. We get a few 4-door hatches, such as the Focus and an Impreza (that tries to call itself a wagon). The next closest thing in size might be a 3-series wagon - although I'm not even sure if that's still available, not to mention it's probably close…

Wouldn't be the first time. A couple years back, there were 2 deaths at California Speedway involving a Carrera GT. Multiple parties were sued in that one, including Porsche.

BTW - $4500 for a good condition SPG? If it's rust free and low-ish mileage, as a closet Saab enthusiast, NP all the way. That's a sick price. I'd take that over a GM Viggen any day.
