The bail system is a racket. It exists to disproportionately squeeze money out of (surprise surprise) lower income people of color. It should be abolished, but the bail bonds industry has major lobbying power.

I have almost no idea how the US bail system works. Frankly I think it’s madness you can pay money to get out of jail; justice is supposed to be blind, and not favor the rich!
