True, it’s kind of crappy that they have so many long-term contract employees, but that’s the way a lot of businesses are going these days, especially IT.  It provides a lot of flexibility for the worker and the company, but when it comes down to it you’ll probably be the first one to go when things get bad.

LOL. So you think that somehow employers have limitless funds and can just keep all workers employed while a huge reduction in income happens? 50% of those employed outside of gov’t work for small business. Get real.

I envision this conversation taking sometime in the near future:

Do the windows not roll down or something? Does the keyfob door-pop stop working? Is there no emergency oh-shit-the-handle-broke-pop-the-damn-door-opener like every other high-end car with door poppers?

I mean, yeah, fix yo’ shit, but I find it difficult to believe that you physically can’t get out of the car just

Yet another way my Fiero is ”just like a Lambo” Door handle broke and I have to open the door using the outer handle.

The definitions of essential in most states are very broad. “Medical” is always essential, however, the manufacturer of breast implants would fall under this category and we all know that while implants are a nice luxury, they are not critical in the time of a pandemic.

Counterpoint: Nobody knows how long this will last, production is shut down, suppliers are shut down, and any projects these contractors were working on are on hold until this is all over. Continuing to pay people for not working may be “nice”, but it’s a great way to burn through all of that cash you made in the last

From what I’ve seen locally in the Detroit area pretty much every business has decided they are essential.

I should start giving them names soon. So sanity is the only real danger this poses for me.

HAHAHAHAHA

But it’s California, so they’ll still have to live in a trailer on that salary...

Neutral: Unfortunately, Yes. My line of work could be considered(misconstrued) as “essential” due to the state’s blanket definitions, so of course the owner decided that, for a fact, we were essential and must stay open. During snow storms, WFH is allowed and encouraged if possible but with Covid-19, even those

Come to California and I can guarantee her a $110k starting salary. HR maybe working from home, but we are gagging for staff, always.

US Politics simplified:

Yeah, it’s kind of weird the mental gymnastics people will do.

yeah, still got billions and billions for irresponsible corporations. Still a win for donors, and once the world starts to open back up the airlines and others will get right back on the profit horse

I saw one of those “Remember this when you go to vote” posts on Facebook complaining about how Democrats blocked the bill initially. I’m the furthest from being up to date on politics, but that complaint seemed weird to me. Republicans want to act like Democrats are lazy and want handouts, but when Democrats refuse

Im an IT systems engineer for a financial so I’m just sequestered in my home office with the machines to keep me company. I should start giving them names soon. So sanity is the only real danger this poses for me.

Yes. I work for a radio corporation (part time) and in administration and as a receptionist at a Funeral Home/Cemetery combo - and yeah - my life sounds like a sitcom premise. The full time job company just cut all hours to 30 so they don’t have to layoff people - which is great if I could live on what they pay me for

2nd Gear: Kinda weird that the whole government worked like it was supposed to here.
