That’s a great compliment. I really appreciate your letting me know. It’s something I take very seriously.

Thanks for letting me know that you enjoy my work. It’s something that really does me a lot to me. I know I keep talking about writing a book, but I actually have finished “Stubborn Kind of Fellow,” and am just trying to figure out how best to make it available to anyone who might be interested in reading it. …
Thanks so much for the generous comments, Sam. I take them to heart. And everything that happened at Wembley, as uncomfortable as it was at the time, has managed to become transmogrified into an overall memorable and happy experience. I wasn’t at the Joshua-Klitschko fight, but am not at all surprised that the…
I never figured out what happened to Wladimir Klitschko in the Fury fight. He was absolutely frozen by, seemingly, nothing. So I don’t take much from it. It could be that we see a total fraud in Fury on December 1st. We could just as easily see a guy who outboxes Wilder through most of the fight, then gets knocked…
Fury expends almost no energy in the ring, so I’m not sure he’s going to have trouble going rounds. And I think that he’s already gotten into Wilder’s head. But, much to my surprise, I did see that Wilder has good power with his right. He’s no Earnie Shavers, but he can punch. And Fury’s chin is decidedly suspect.
So glad you liked the piece, Jan. Thank you for letting me know. I miss so many of my friends on Twitter. But I found myself spending too much time in acrimonious conversations with people who seemed to take disagreement personally. I don’t fight with people for free. I look forward to see the Cuban amateur stars…
Thanks for getting back to me on the two pieces, man. I’m very grateful that you liked the work. I wish I could do justice to Mitch’s performance at the restaurant. Until you see him unzipping a brightly colored jumpsuit in a roomful of sedate people, you haven’t seen the real Mitch Green.
Well, first, thank you for the compliment. I really do appreciate it. But I have only good things to say about Deadspin. I admire many of their writers, and everyone connected with the site has been fantastic to work with. They give me the freedom to do what I do, no matter how controversial the subject or how…
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it. It’s really gratifying to hear that. My ten favorite “great” fighters are: Robinson, Greb, Duran, Langford, Armstrong, Leonard (Benny), Charles, Canzoneri, Pep, and Walker.
I’m really happy that you liked the piece, man. Thank you for taking time to let me know. It makes me look forward to writing the next one.
Thank you much for letting me know. It really is something I take to heart. I think there are people who would say that it does take all day to read one of my pieces. I’m grateful for those who stick with me.
I’m really flattered that you think so highly of my work. Thank you very much. I love the boxing writing on Deadspin from Eddie Goldman, Hamilton Nolan, Iron Mike Gallego, and a number of others whose work doesn’t turn up here often. I feel lucky to be in their company.
Just caught this response. Thank you for mentioning it; it was really decent of you.
No need to apologize; without those three elements, I wouldn’t have had a piece. Over the years, I actually have kind of grown to love British transportation. It may be labyrinthine, but it’s logical. Thanks for the kind words about the piece. Much appreciated.
About five years ago, I decided to try to write vertically, rather than having my writing move in a direction—like animal time, attempting to inhabit each second. That can definitely seem meandering (and maybe it is). It was also influenced by listening to a lot of late-period Coltrane. As to the woman on the plane, I…
You’re right about Wilder keeping his power until late in his fights. And it might come down to that. But I have a feeling that either Fury will show that he doesn’t have much, in which case it’ll be a fairly short fight, or he’ll get inside Wilder’s head, which will bring the fight into the late rounds.
Thanks for your willingness to take that particular journey with me. Always good to have company.
Thank you for reading them. I’m really deeply grateful. I can see Wilder knocking Fury out. But I can see him losing too.
Thanks for the generous words. And I’m getting anxious remembering that tunnel.
It means a tremendous amount to me when someone takes the time to read my admittedly long works, and even more when they let me know that they got something from them. Thanks so much.
