But all of the folks you mentioned went by the one name from the start of their career. I doubt Zendaya will equal any of those folks’ successes, but they were just as “not noteworthy” when the hubris struck.

DC made a very bad deal on the original SWAMP THING movies. . . basically the movie deal gave the filmmakers the rights to use anything they wanted from the run of the book, and neither DC or the artists got anything further for it. Not sure if DC gave a share of the original option money to Wein and Wrightson, but by…
How DOES one get out of the grays on io9 anyway? I’m an AV CLUB poster in good standing, if that helps...
No, the analogy was that it’s no more unlikely that all 4 or 5 of these high school kids WERE snapped than that all six OG Avengers WEREN’T.
I agree with you to the extent that I would like to see a scene with a five-years older unsnapped classmate (Liz, probably) to underline the weirdness of this new post-ENDGAME…
I wonder if the recast for MCU Xavier will need to be a Brit for this reason. Comics-Chuck isn’t British, but Stewart casts a long shadow.
(I also wonder if this means will be stuck with a young, tall, hunky Wolverine in the MCU. Recasting that role will be tough enough, but if they go with a comics-accurate little…
tl;dr version
Respectfully disagree. Whatever worked in the film, it was the Batsuited stuff. Affleck’s Wayne used the same growly voice, walked around like he was flexing at all times, and stood out in crowds like a deeply serious guy with an agenda, not an aimless playboy.
[Nevermind that the script had him actually banging…
I would have preferred Bucky as the new Cap for two reasons:
You almost had it. . . so close. ; )
NYPD BLUE started after FENCES was underway. It’s first year lost to FENCES repeat win, and then it won Outstanding Dramatic Series for the first Smits season the next year (I got my years wrong above, apologies).
All due respect to the comedy shows folks are mentioning, I think those are apples to PICKETT FENCES orange…
PICKET FENCES won back-to-back Outstanding Drama Series Emmys in 1994/1995, so it was certainly a contender. What shows in this period would you say are “a lot better”?
SPOILER: Mysterio is Uncle Ben.
I watched the Downey/Holland one, and enjoyed the roundtable stuff quite a lot. But the chef stuff is not my cuppa - I may not be back, if this is the typical food/showbiz ratio.
I loved DINNER FOR FIVE, so I’m hoping for good things from this show.
I agree with all of this,
Shatner’s budget wasn’t cut - he was actually given a pretty decent budget ($30M) after the resounding success of The Voyage Home. He managed his resources poorly, and then had to cut some corners when the studio wouldn’t give him additional money for reshoots.
Streaming/on demand was and is a superior replacement for all other forms of movie rental, so it’s no surprise that it supplanted Blockbuster/Redbox/Netflix discs. But for movies I want to own, I’m sticking with physical media.
(spoilers)
As unsubtle as this show could be (even at its best), I’m shocked the creators had the restraint to NOT have someone call Jon “Queenslayer” at some point in the hour.
