Hmmmm. . . much was made of how Spider-Man’s suit in CIVIL WAR was all CGI. The footage above from HOMECOMING shows a pretty-good-looking practical suit. But then I heard it was back to all-CGI on INFINITY WAR. Does this just come down to a Russo Brothers preference, or is there a production need I’m missing that

Most Academy viewers make their voting selections by what they see at home via DVDs and blu-rays sent out by the studios. If Spielberg and company don’t want to be complete hypocrites, any rule changes that eliminate Netflix-produced features should also forbid the mailing of screeners.

Now playing

“The Stand” in DOM HEMINGWAY. What an odd film.

As bad as THE LAST STAND was, I think the buildup of Jean in the first two X-films set the stage well enough where a third film *could* have told a version of Dark Phoenix well. But, boy, did they blow it in the execution.

More the script’s fault than Ratner’s, really. And I thought the Mutant cure stuff in LAST STAND

Yes. It’d be interesting to look back at the previous episodes - I’d bet there’s a pretty clear demarcation where Lucy goes from worried and blaming Tom to self-loathing.

That seemed very clear to me while watching the speech. Also that they were boosting a guy who had lost in his category just a while before.

As far as not mentioning Dr. Shirley, I don’t think they talked about Tony Lip in the Best Picture speech either. I read it as Lip was already covered by his son, Dr. Shirley was

John Williams. Using “Leaving Home” from SUPERMAN was a terrific idea.

There was a bit more of that in other SW films. My favorite:

Just saw the film on PPV last night, and I, too, kept bumping on Malek’s seeming too short for Mercury (despite being an otherwise terrific performance).

Bryan Singer, for all his faults, was able to make Tom Cruise look non-tiny in VALKYRIE with casting and camera placement - why not here?

Michael Gambon was pretty great in the original GREEK MYTHS episodes too. So there’s precedent...

I didn’t find the initial report of the attack to be all that hard to believe. But things are certainly looking shaky now. That said. . .

That’s where I was - I read it as a satire of self-indulgent, Method-y actors. Downey’s character was the butt of the joke.

If this is wrong, is the MAD MEN scene with Roger Sterling performing in blackface - where other characters and the authorial POV are clearly critical of the act - also?

Or - speaking of MAD MEN -

Love Infantino inked by Gene Day. Bob Wiacek’s issues were much less impressive, to my eyes.

It’s on Prime, too. (maybe this useful info will get me out of the grays!)

My understanding is the main reason Scott Glenn didn’t return for RED DRAGON was how disturbed he’d been by materials John Douglas (the “real” Jack Crawford) had shared with him during his research for SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Glenn had no interest in getting back in that head space.

I can only imagine how much worse it

I was SO sure Jesse’s MILF love was going to be part of the BB endgame. There’s a moment at the car wash late in the series when he and Skyler are looking at each other seemingly-meaningfully... I thought perhaps Skyler would try to manipulate Jesse into getting Walt out of her kids’ lives.

This. The reviews kept me away, but once I watched the film a few months ago I found it damned enjoyable. Gorgeous-looking to boot.

He’s grandfathered:

Hugh Jackman, pre-X-MEN, was basically an unknown. Unless you were a big fan of OKLAHOMA. . . .

It’s awesome. What comic is this?
