Sounds pretty bad and hopefully this accident will serve as one mother of a wake up call. It was a huge incident, but it could have been much worse if what you say is true.

Just saw the video of that crash. Shouldn't there be red flags put out immediately when something like this happens? I know it's not up to marshals at the scene to decide but the race clerk (director or what have you), but this could have been even nastier with cars storming into the mess.

What kind of impact it must be to knock a crash helmet off? I'm not saying it's not possible, but wow. The straps are designed to endure huge forces and if the helmet is secured properly I don't see how it can be simply knocked off.
