God bless this poor family. I hope one day they can put this horrible event behind them, and that people allow them to do so - especially the children.
Mate, I’m going to be in student loan debt for the rest of my life, I think I’ve earned the right to be a massive nerd :p
Church car parks. Any day but Sunday, that’s where I learned.
Even if there is a minimum parking requirement, surely the space could be designed better? My college had a large car park built in the 60s, but broke it up with landscaped medians where trees were planted. So now even though it was a large area of pavement, it was shady and pleasant.
That’s a good argument
I’m going to unleash the inner nerd, but it still won’t be “doorway”. Whirlpool, yes. But doors and doorways didn’t exist, so even with a fusional language like German, they couldn’t make a word that they didn’t have a concept for. This is purely for the modern audience and writer.
They might be primative, but the Killer Folk are apparently doing something right if they have a word for doorway before they’d invented doors...
Ancient “Mythology” jazzed up with CGI and white actors? I’m getting a feeling like we’ve been here before...
Hayao Miyazaki directing a film of Good Omens. He’s got the warmth, humour and heart, plus animation is a better fit than live action.
I’ve got a lit MA but in this economy puns are about all it’s been good for ;)
Well, in the original Confessions of a Justified Sinner was about a Calvinist who felt the dogma of Unconditional Election meant that even if he commited murder it was part of God’s plan. Which does actually sound a lot like the androids in the Alien film series.
I’m trying to think of more religious parables they can crib from...
The amount of crap we are legally obligated to buy for the nursury I work in is staggering. For example, every employee wears latex gloves and apron for any toileting needs. But they have to be changed and disposed of for every new kid handled - so in a class of 15, that’s 15 aprons and 30 gloves legally required to…
I work at a nursery which has won government awards for service, education and welfare, but a lot of staff actually drop their kids at the middle-of-the-road nursery in the next village before coming in. We don’t get a discount if we enroll our kids were we work.
That’s even worse than being told you’re wrong, because you learn nothing except to feel distrust toward your teacher. I try to explain everything to the kids in my group, who are young, with full sentences. It does take longer, but you can see a massive difference in my relationship with the kids.
I remember a lot of the other students just filling in the three words with whatever already-existing phrase fit, so you got answers like “I love you” to “feel the burn” which were acceptable because they followed the literal instructions.
Did the teacher explain why it was “wrong” or just dismissed you outright?
I work with children now and I try to emphisize this point at every opportunity. The line between inspiring them to either do better or completely not give a shit is a very thin one. I’m fighting all the time against my nephew’s apathy and discouragement in school, practically giving him second classes at times.
Understanding the stories of Christ - really understanding them - has a massive impact if you are religious. For me, it’s actually made it harder to join in with mainstream, popular Christianity. You become almost a church of one, trying to be good to everyone without opinion or bias. Not as popular as you’d think.
