I am so confused - was she raped after she threw up by Laurent? I've read various blogs that say she was based on the shower in the morning, and the fact that she was asleep. What is the verdict on this?

Did anyone else find this movie disturbingly violent? I took my 10 year old boy who is not easily scared by thrill movies and we both were disgusted by the duplicity of animal ethics. I disagree with this review, but I understand how you could find her character so unbelievable. Unless you live with chronic pain, dependence/addiction and loss of a child, you can't imagine how a functional person can degrade into a characature of their former self. I thought her depiction of irreverent self-loathing

Damn! Five years late to this discussion. I have not seen the movie in a decade, so I forgot about Robert Downey Jr (now Ironman) who would be an excellent Barris. The only characters that really mattered were Donna, Barris and Arctor, and the latter should have been played by someone who is attractively unattractive.
