I feel that there’s a distinction between art (in which I look at an actors’ face and am encouraged to interact/empathize with their embodiment of a character.....or an author with a written ‘voice’, or something similar) and less explicitly ‘human’ works like a medication that can be used/appreciated with zero

I am a 24yo woman in a long-term relationship with a 24yo man. Our mattress+boxspring are on a rug on the floor. This eliminates the potential hiding space for lost socks, hair ties, tissues, and condom wrappers. Bedframes are for suckers.

I hold a lot of anger at the media. I guess I’m the left wing opposite side of the coin of the cray cray right wingers who rant against the media. So few journalists called Trump out on his lying shit. He continually lied about the unemployment rate, foreign policy, etc. and instead of calling him out as a lying

The disturbing, unwritten part of this story, is that ICE agents seem to be doing their job with excessive gusto, intimidation, and cruelty, rather than any sense of caution. This compliance by the rank and file is how tyrants steamroll a society into submission.

Not resisting is important. So, I’m not in the US but I have been a part of many rallies etc and this is advice I was given and passed on to everyone I have ever known wrt police and political action.

Expect a new set of executive orders designed to prevent women from marrying men who are no good for them, or men with former wives who have disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

“Still, Mr. Trump, who does not read books...”

I think you have a point there. I live in the UK (as a European) and I campaigned for the Remain campaign. Almost everyone I talked to on the street and doors was like ‘Yup, voting remain’. Because I’m in London - I only reached very few people.
When the referendum was over, I pleaded with my US friends, said ‘Have the

The “too” is clearly implied to anyone with half a brain - it’s only idiots and trolls who think it means “Only Black Lives Matter”. Adding the word would do nothing to dissuade those people.

I feel like a lot of these full-time drivers are missing the point of Uber. It was originally conceived as a way to make some extra cash on top of a regular job, not to replace a full-time job entirely. Also, buying/leasing a new car just to drive for Uber isn’t exactly a wise choice. What I tell people is to find out

Well, maybe, but also quite possibly not.

Serious question: does the Black Lives Matter movement have a set position on whether they want white people at their protests or not? I’ve read several high profile articles both ways. I’ll admit to staying away, in part because I’ve read several impassioned pieces saying that I shouldn’t go.

My protest is better than your protest

I mean, I would agree with you on most other articles about critiquing the Women’s March, but this article in particular just seems to take issue with...assuming nobody’s really into it, I guess? I dunno, it just makes the assumption that because people at these marches were enjoying themselves and posting about it on

I work for an advocacy organization. We all went to the march, with our friends and our families.

I think your instincts about many protesters not being previously involved in BLM protests is probably accurate... although I’d wager many had never protested before in any capacity for any cause at all.

Agreed, it seems wrong to be so cynical and mistrusting of people who are new to activism. They are in many ways “the middle” that activists spend so much time trying to convince and get involved. Well, they did, now let’s work to make them follow up.

My $0.02, FWIW.

What’s with these purity tests that people on the left require of one another?
