I didn't know who/what Pennywise is and I clicked and now I'm terrified! Ah!! Awesome gif though :).

Oh, I agree that the costumes aren't very good costumes. (For the watermelon example, though, wearing a large watermelon shape would be extremely cumbersome and make it impossible to sit; I'd go for a watermelon dress too.) I also make my costume myself, as do most people I know.
Why is there so much slut shaming going on over people who want to dress up as something sexy *one* *night* *in* *a* *year*? Yes, it's incredibly aggravating that costume stores only sell sexy-____, but, pop up Halloween stores have never been known for their quality costumes... You've always had to put together any…
I agree that Rue looks a little bit older than I pictured, but I think it would be difficult finding a younger actress to play a complex and violence-oriented character well. And while someone that young playing Rue would definitely bring home the tragedy and terribleness of everything, it would be very disturbing. At…
In my mind, Haymitch was much older looking, and much more worn down from his life... Not nearly so handsome. Not nearly so clean cut. (Um. Haymitch is the drunken mentor, right? My brain is farting on me?)
As a vegetarian, I choose to eat eggs because eggs are abortions, and as a feminist, I am pro-abortion.
Since this guy isn't actually Amber Cole's father, why is this being posted on Jezebel? It's full of slut shaming towards the poor girl, conjecture about the mother, Nice Guy Syndrome, and more. Way too much slut shaming for this website. Why?
Whoa. I totally did not catch that he is not really her father. Ok, now I'm slightly less flabbergasted, but...now I'm more mad at him. Ugh. Creep.
My understanding of SlutWalk is that it is protesting these types of characterizations. It's saying that being in charge of your sexuality is not a bad thing, not something that can be turned into an insult, and that it's not ok to try to use sex related insults to put women down. SlutWalk (at least not everyone in…
He seems to be blaming this on her mother and feminists... hm. I don't know anything about her mother, so I'm going to refrain from saying anything about that, but really? Feminists? Slutwalk style feminists would be ones *protesting* those who distribute the tape and call your daughter a slut (as *You* seem to be…
Oh, I like that distinction for when cultural appropriation is bad. It's been something I've been trying to make my mind up on with all these recent articles about appropriation.
Wait, are you really saying it's not ok to dress as a ninja for Halloween? Really? I totally understand why some things, like black face, are bad, but ninjas?
Exactly. I don't think that anyone who dresses up as a Geisha believes that all Japanese people are like that. I wore a kimono one year for halloween because I thought it was beautiful, and it was the one day of the year where I could wear it. Culture-costumes aren't saying that the whole culture is like that. It's…
My high school had Halloween as the last day of the quarter. After the end of every quarter, there is a mandatory day off of school, or a teacher grading day. So for me, the day after Halloween was always a day off from school. This solved sooo many issues.
That could very well be why I like the word, despite being a vegetarian... hmmm... I think of a jolly, middle aged, plump baker woman with rosy cheeks and flower in her upswept hair who gives out free treats to little children who hang around her bakery. Yes, I have an oddly specific image.
I see what you mean. I do have issues with the "Navajo trend" in how it commercializes Native American culture while acting like it's some toy culture that only existed in some romanticized past. However, I do think it's ok to be influenced by other culture's aesthetics. I guess I'm trying to figure out where the…
That's how I feel about the word "plump." I see what you mean about "fat," but it just has so many other connotations in regards to human bodies, and I only use it (in my mind) when thinking about myself in a negative way. "Plump" has those happy connotations to me.
Have you read Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami? It's kind of modern, surrealist fiction, and absolutely fantastic. (I'm bad with genres and descriptions. You should probably google it.)
Um, wow. You just described word-for-word someone I used to be very close to... I always thought he feigned pity-ploys to distract from when he was cruel and psuedo-apologize.
There's another documentary called Missing Women that looks not just at China, but at India and Pakistan as well, which also have a lot of gender imbalance problems. There's also the book Unnatural Selection, which looks at the effects of and reasons for the gender imbalance. It's a really interesting topic,…
