Most suffer a little more lag, but they’ll keep pumping air to achieve the same level of o2/boost as they would at sea level. S/C’s suffer a little more, but turbo’s suffer very little peak loss, and it’s vastly superior to naturally aspirated’s absolute losses...
Hmm... Turbos are always attractive here at high elevation (6,300' base elevation here, passes over 10k ft some places), but the words ‘brand new engine line’... from FCA? Cringeworthy.
If you’re experienced, and willing to be judicious with your speed and make some improvements to the basic setup, I think it’s safe to tow closer to 5,000 lbs with a four door Wrangler if needed.
I’m not familiar with the motor - are they using it in other FCA applications? If so, what are people in the tuning world seeing with it?
Uprated components matter a lot if you’re towing on mountain passes - I see broken down vehicles or smoking brakes all the time at the base of Teton Pass as people try to town their massive trailers with insufficiently rated or maintained vehicles. We get our share of runaway vehicles (mostly semis, but pickups with…
Yes, but the speed limits are now up to 80mph (with trailer) in many areas, so they have to rate it to that speed. In a lot of owner’s manuals, you will find different tow capacity ratings for different conditions (towing on hills vs flat, etc).
Out here in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Nevada only heavy trucks (semis) are restricted, and they are restricted to 70 mph vs 80 mph for the rest of the RV crowd...
I’m wondering how easy it will be to replace the turbo... because I have to think that thing is going to fail early and often at high elevations, especially with heavily-loaded vehicles on trails where it gets spooled up but sees little or no air cooling.
You can always add a trailer brake controller, better pads and rotors (or even a BBK), auxiliary rear air springs or uprated springs and auxiliary oil or transmission coolers to add towing capacity. The Xterra is factory rated at 5,000 lbs and has a similarly short wheelbase and terribly soft rear springs (I added air…
I’m curious to see how the 2.0T performs at high elevation vs the 3.6. Here at 6,300', the 305hp 3.6L is closer to 200hp, whereas the 2.0T would still be 300hp (if that rating rumor is true)... which would make that (or the the diesel) the more powerful choice...
It all sounds pretty good. I’m guessing the diesel will be auto-only, and unfortunately not be rated to tow more than 3,500 lbs due only to the size and handling characteristics of the vehicle (the 3.6 is rated to tow 7k in the RAM 1500, so it’s not a ‘power/durability’ issue).
I look forward to seeing the power and…
I actually liked Rorie in that too. It’s kind of refreshing to have one person trying to be a somewhat ‘nice guy’ in the middle of all the other asshats (who I also enjoyed). Sometimes I want to give LeBlanc a line just to get his speech up to speed, though.
No Country for Old Men?
I mean, it’s great for lower ranking officers too...
Sure makes the ‘Demon’ look more like a garden variety ghost...
LMAO!!! COTD...
Do you understand that the kneeling gesture is not meant to disrespect our military, which only owns partial claim to the symbolism of the anthem and the flag?
Do you stand and salute or put your hand on your chest every time you here the national anthem? Or do you sit their in your barcalounger hoping your toaster over gets the job done before kickoff?
dufuq? A hyperloop to Wyoming? Because *why* exactly? I live in Wyoming... such a thing makes no sense. LA or SD to SF makes sense. NYC/DC to ATL makes sense. But a hyperloop to Cheyenne, WY? No.
