@DeeJayQueue: Actually, there is an indicator. The metal sleeve on the plug is solid on one side and joined together on the other. On every one I have ever looked at, it goes the same way: the side with the seem is the side with the plastic plug.

Don't forget to put a UV filter on that starter lens to protect it from scratches.
