Well, it could be a mark of a great movie. But do you really think, for example, that that Nonpoint cover of "In the Air Tonight" works here? It might have worked if Mann was somehow criticizing Crockett and Tubbs as the kind of Entourage-esque roidbags who might enjoy a song like that. But as I recall — and it's been

I like this movie, but I could never love it because it seriously has the worst taste in music.

You can also read Mitchell's most recent column in the Guardian on communities secretary Eric Pickles, in which he nobly avoids making a Thick of It-style Mr. Men joke on the poor fellow's name.

Glad to see a shout-out for Nat Hiken, one of the greatest and most underrated people in the history of TV comedy. He created two stone-cold classics in The Phil Silvers Show and Car 54, Where Are You?, but you hardly ever see him discussed today. He's like the Leo McCarey of television.

There are a few clips of Kitson on Youtube. It's mostly just short TV clips of festival appearances, though.

Computer Chess is a lot different than his other movies. It plays kind of like a gonzo home movie, with all of the amateurishness that implies. I think it may show Bujalski aging out of his own milieu, too.

It's a term that spoils everything it touches. I still use it on occasion because it's moderately useful as a purely descriptive term.

My mom loves those Lee Child books. She is still pissed they cast Cruise as Jack Reacher. My theory is that Tom Cruise is only playing characters named Jack from now on.

Hey, I saw that John Waters this weekend. He walked right by me while I was on the phone! Just one of my many incredible celebrity encounters!

Despite getting saddled with the horrible "Godfather of Mumblecore" label, I actually really enjoy Bujalski's films. Unlike a lot of his mumblecore contemporaries, he's got an actual aesthetic point of view. That said, Computer Chess is a step above.

Hey, I haven't checked into this feature for several weeks. Glad to see you're still going strong!

I saw Bela Fleck doing a jazz combo show on Friday. I've never really listened to Fleck much, but a friend of mine had an extra ticket. It was a solid show. Fairly traditional jazz, but, you know, with banjo. To Fleck's credit, he never makes that seem like just a novelty.

Mine, too!

I think there's a law-of-averages thing at work. Cable networks like TLC and Discovery can cheaply produce a ton of reality shows. A lot of them never become hits, and that's fine. But if you produce that many shows, a few of them are bound to catch on. Networks don't really have the luxury.

I would've like it more had it been phrased like "wtf is starz lol"

You mean they haven't renewed Homeless Tracy Letts Wants Yemeni Pornography (Farting Tarantula Rapes Old Young Lesbians) yet??

Well, those Ikea instructions are certainly a joke, amirite?

Yeah, but…Patrick. Duffy.
