I’d say they got a lot of engine and suspension tech out of Glas though...BMW engines were not very advanced until the purchase of Glas...reliable yes, but not overly powerful...course there was that whole collusion with the German govt during this period to kill off Borgward also who had BMW beat in engines and

I think it could be reasonably argued that BMW’s acquisition of Glas was its true salvation in 1966, which gave it access to more advanced engineering, Pietro Frua, and the car that went on to eventually evolve into the 3-Series.

I love Mercedes, but mayhap they should study their own history as well...Gottleib Daimler’s first vehicle was more of a motorcycle than a car vs Benz’ 3 wheeled carriage...

I’m wondering, how reliable are the new Rovers since Tata took over JLR? It’s the one thing that keeps me out of a Rover showroom is their history of extraordinarily poor reliability

Ettore and Jean are rolling in their graves...this crap is an insult to the Bugatti name and heritage that it embodies. Good job Volkswagen, thanks for ruining something else

It’s also notable that the 480 is one of 2 Volvos not designed by Jan Wilsgaard between 1959-2000 (not counting Bertone designs based on preexisting platforms)...the other being the P1800ES by Pelle Petterson

So, a lazy, dumb, viscous coupling system...good job for the giant leap back Audi. Glad my Acura has real/active AWD

I’m guessing the science of the alleged cheating of MB’s cheating comes from the group in Germany that was trying to prove BMW and Merc diesels were cheating...by testing cars that ranged from 6-12 years old. I don’t care what company makes the engine, not ONE emissions system works at 100% anymore after a few years.

Great article, but Pelle Petterson designed the P1800, not Frua...although Frua said he had been in the room and may have given Petterson a pointer here and there...

Fortunately, DMC announced that the car will be available for purchase by regular people like us in the $50K ballpark.

I still wonder why the manufacturers don’t sell prototypes with an ironclad release of all responsibility for anything that happens being the fault of the owner and/or drivers...

And we should all flag State Farm for engaging in extreme douche-baggery for this one. Another reason to get rid of all of my entanglements with them.

I’m from Alabama and an Auburn grad...when you’re in my state, the difference between Auburn and Alabama fans is quite noticeable. Generally, the educated individual from the state of Alabama is an Auburn fan, and the less educated proletariat is a Bama fan.

Right, to replace the front diff on an E70 is no easy task and the impending failure of the transmission and likely failure of the transfer case (something E70s are renown for at 75K miles) took me to an Acura dealer...the 3rd gen MDX is way more wrenchable. And why would I replace the seal myself when it’s under

Hey Torch, in my experience of driving vintage VDubs for many years, it’s entirely possible the German post workers were so damned happy due to the gasoline fumes that inevitably waft into the cabin of every Type 1-based Volkswagen ;)

I just traded in a ‘11 X5d back in August. Not easy to work on and a giant turd...there is no reason why a front differential seal should require the diff to be replaced ($1800 part) rather than a diff seal ($20 part). I’ll never own another Bimmer built after the E39 days...they have become too complicated and

Most important thing to know about BMW ownership: dump that thing like a $2 whore a couple months out from the bumper-to-bumper warranty expiring...or you’ll be really sorry.

Why the hell did FF show off this concept supercar that will never see the light of day and is complete vaporware? How about you actually show us what you’re thinking of producing if you’re going to compete with the likes of Tesla and the other big boys in the industry...

Anyone else notice the rendering looks exactly like an Atari Jaguar console? Guess Coleco bought the molds?

Like all of the VW bus concepts since the late 90s, this one will merely be vaporware too. VW can’t really afford a new product line right now anyways. They could just pull their heads out of their asses and import the Caravelle to the States and make us all happy.
