As a kid, I thought the instrument panel in my older sister’s 1984 Berlinetta was unbelievably cool. A fascinating amalgam of Knight Rider and arcade racer cabinets. I remember going out and sitting in it just to play around and push buttons. Everything else about the car sucked, but that panel was dope.

It just looks to *happy*, like a not so intelligent puppy.

Because police can just as easily “chase” you with radios, surveillance and detective work that doesn’t endanger the general public.

That last number is wild! 293 chases in one county in one year?!? How many ended in fatalities? Like if that’s one a day, that means that on 80% of days, they had a chase. While the law requires people to stop for police when ordered, the fact is some folks won’t. You don’t have a right to run, but I cannot believe…

Yeah. For all those people that are talking about how cool cars were in the 80s.. I present why most were not.

I’d put money on the cause being overwork. Not because of the lazy Japan=overwork jokes. They were dealing with all the usual Christmas/New Year traffic, significant even in Japan, plus the extra work of supporting the earthquake relief efforts, I’m willing to bet that that resulted in degraded ability to maintain…

It’s not just the “tiny fraction of” bad cops, it’s the overwhelming majority of chips who leap to protect bad cops from the consequences of their actions, and who in doing so, encourage that badness.
