Players in the NCAA are basically interns. They’re not supposed to earn outside money because then they could do things like support themselves.

NCAA athletes are not allowed to accept any kind of gift or monetary compensation from anyone who is not their parents. That’s why top colleges spend a lot of money on facilities because their students can use those without it being called a gift.
