Contracts are negotations. Give and Take. Maybe the player gets more guaranteed money for giving up the holdout option. Who knows, but the player is never obligated to sign a contract in the first place.

In every sport I played, the refs were beyond reproach. The only things we were even allowed to say to refs was ‘yes sir’. Hitting one on purpose would’ve been unthinkable. This falls on the coaches as much as the players in every case.
