From living in the South for years and now in the Midwest I’m sure there are many reasons. One of the main reasons boils down to those cheap CUV’s are easy to get financing and in general cheap to run. They take regular gas, no large wheels and expensive tires, insurance is low, and any corner mechanic can work on

I don’t know if I’ll get ostracized for this, but here goes: I don’t own a car, I ride the train for my 50-minute commute. When I need a car, I use a car sharing service. Then it’s usually a small VW (Up!), or a Golf of some sort.

I think this argument distracts from the point of the gas tax in the first place, which isn’t to encourage efficiency but as a way to pay for infrastructure that everyone uses. The idea behind it being a gas tax was that it used to be generally true that heavier cars used more fuel and cause more roadway damage so

If pricing were more straightforward people wouldn’t resort to these methods” EXACTLY. When I was living in Detroit 20 years ago, for some reason it was often cheaper for me to drive to Lansing or Toledo and then fly back to the Detroit Airport, and then fly non-stop to my actual destination. How an extra flight on

If he had payed the higher one-way direct flight fare, would he have been on the same flight at the same time, to the same destination?

I couldn’t agree more. I did something like this many years ago when trying to get from Oslo to Vienna for a reasonable price. It was a bit different though - a round trip was cheaper than a one-way trip so I booked the round trip and didn’t take the flight back to Oslo.

An empty seat is a ticket unsold to the money minds who make air travel tick.

Current battery tech has an estimated lifespan of 300k-500k miles. Teslas that have been used as Ubers are getting their batteries replaced around 200k miles and the shortened life seems to be the heavy use of DC fast charging. That would put EVs and their batts at a much longer lifespan than the typical ICE car.

Electric motors will last forever. Batteries will last 10-15 years avg, about the same as an ice motor but without needing maintenance that whole time. Battery pack replacement is not that expensive for most vehicles, unless you go to the dealership to have it done. Over 15 years the cost of just maintaining that ice

A better deal is riding a bike so you don’t have to own a car and pay for gas or insurance. An even better deal is walking so you don’t have to buy a bike.

The fallacy here is that sovereign citizens would consider themselves exempt from any sort of gun control laws and would be armed anyway and would respond with lethal force in any attempt to impede them. Even if guns were absolutely banned today those dipshits would be armed and the result would be the same.

For this particular instance that probably wouldnt matter at all. Being from the SC movement, he would have illegally acquired a firearm. They do not believe they are subject to the nations laws.

Transit vans actually have an AMAZING vantage point. It may not look it from the pictures, but I doubt it impacts visibility much.

Another Shill article with more quotes than actual text.

They should really get an MLB pitcher or maybe an NFL QB to throw it. Goes to show you that Boeing engineers can think, but not enough.

The useful metric is duration, not range.

It’s a dart. Or a missile. Its performance comes from thrust not lift, is what I’m getting at. Or more accurately, its relative thrust to drag. Yes, there is some lift, but its tiny compared to it just being a low drag dart. It’s a clever interpretation of what a paper airplane is...but I would say this is a record

Ahh, yes, the commenter knowing more than the actual, literal expert testers tasked with certifying whether the car is safe or not.

Is there an auto manufacturer around today who hasn’t flopped on one or many of its cars, multiple times, or even for full decades in their histories? If this startup VinFast (which sounds like a feature on a DMV website) expects to hit one out of the park on its first try ... well, let’s just say I don’t want to be

I’m a former ADA. DUI cases without accidents or injuries are typically assigned to the newest ADAs on staff. They go to trial a lot and they follow a pattern that can help a new hire learn how to navigate a trial. Many counties have no-drop policies for DUIs because of cops and DAs hooking people up and dropping
