Google Search says alimony payments are tax deductible. That is, Depp can take the $7megabucks as a tax deduction if the divorce settlement was worded to make the $7megabucks alimony. Note that this has NOTHING to do with charity - Depp ALREADY was able to tax deduct the payment(s) (again, if the settlement itself is

Unless someone actually publishes the actual divorce settlement then you and I have NO CLUE what it says either party is allowed to do or not do.

Some would call it sneakily petty. Have splashy PRs released saying “Donating ALL to charity”” then NOT correcting the stupid Me-Too Media’s words that say THAT means “Getting nothing!”.

“...I can’t see how him deciding to donate money to a charity in her name could possibly fulfill their divorce settlement agreement.”

“...This was a stupid move on his part.”

“...This money is hers and he is trying to change the agreement terms....”

No, the meager words about the settlement have, in some articles, mentioned that all expenses get paid FIRST, then the donations are made.

“...She definitely would not come out on top financially...”

Is that the way the settlement is worded? I that how the payments to Heard are being made?

Since the tax deduction wasn’t mentioned in ANY of the Me-Too Media articles nor her own press releases, I assumed she wanted that little factoid to be quietly hidden and Depp understandably called her on it.

She has 5 years to claim the rest, assuming the answer(s) to the Google Search query “Do tax deductions carry over to following years” is correct.

“...He can’t legally donate HER settlement money and call it a day...”

THat isn’t the bottom line at all.

“...He’s doing it because he gets half the money back from claiming this...”

She gets a HUGE tax deduction for making a contribution using SOMEONE ELSE’S (!) money by accepting $7 megabucks, paying taxes on it, “giving away” the rest, and filing for N deductions on her real earnings.

Perhaps the actual divorce settlement records would be a better source of information than Jezebel. I’m pretty sure Depp’s very-well-paid lawyers have a pretty good handle on the settlement and how it needs to be legally followed.

“...but neither would Depp...”

No, for not saying outright she gets a MASSIVE tax deduction from money she never herself earned but donated to charity, allowing her to cut her ACTUAL earnings to, like, nothing even though she’s making oodles (this latter opinion, of course, is pure speculation that someone will pay her something for working on

Nah, what he is hilariously doing is making sure SHE can’t sneakily take a “hidden” tax deduction that the dumb-as-a-plug Me-Too Media didn’t pick up on in the first place “Ooh, aah, she’s donating ALL the money to charity and taking NOTHING! Ooh, Aah!”

“...When we are TA’s, we in a union. When we are paid for research, however, the UC says we’re not employees...”
