It’s why I hate driving parallel with another vehicle in an adjacent lane. Amazing the BMW driver wasn’t killed.

i remember when there was a huge waiting list for these and when the world went into a recession people left these in droves. It was a victim of the economy.

I think many times BMW likes to use esoteric technology with very marginal benefits and huge down-the-road maintenance costs just because it....can do it.

Good suggestions although I would caution trying to pick a future classic is like trying to tell people where the stock market will be in 10 years.

One can’t have this article without mentioning Bill Lear - yes that Lear of LearJet fame.

Do we have a street class and race class? Funny, first thing that came to my mind was the mighty Mercedes-Benz M119, which won 17 of 19 races in the late 80s/early 90s. Even at full throttle on my 1996 SL it sounds great. And on closer examination that is the engine on the picture.

Just saw that last week on the big screen - a theater shows classics every Sunday and Wednesday - what a glorious movie and the scenery and yes, the Sunbeam Alpine. Sure was a long way from the Tiger, tho’

The sad part of this is because the VW group F-up the whole industry has to pay for it. Reminds me of this scene from Full Metal Jacket - VW is the Pvt Pyle of the auto industry.

Years ago when I was flying (just little Cessnas and Beechcrafts) I was able to take a class at Miramar and the pressure chamber. They played an audio of an F4 pilot taking off from St Lous. Unknown to him his O2 wasn’t feeding.

Great videos - and I didn’t know Lady Gaga had it in her. I’d like to know how the pilots time the flyby exactly to the ending of the song - I am sure with rehearsals Lady Gaga will give a time but still a second or 2 off....

You’re making the assumption that because something is appreciating it will continue to appreciate. Ask some people who bought into the hype that when Enzo died buying any Ferrari made during his reign was like having money in the bank.

Wow. Thank Chief Noe for that wonderful summary.

150,000 miles for 45 years? 3300 miles a year??

They are part of that 10%. Never heard of he 10% rule?

I know some one who, in the golden era of sports car racing - 1950s-early 60s - sold their furniture and got a slightly used TR. Raced at Riverside and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Stirling Moss and Jim Clarke.

Still, there was a lot of engineering involved mating a manual gearbox to the drive train - not only the mechanical aspect but the electrical. At some close point, they said “no more”. No anticipated market for a manual? I don’t know.

If they went to the trouble of developing and certifying a manual you have to wonder why they didn’t make more - or was this made for market outside the US (with the emissions requirements)

Maybe The Stig can do double duty, as Clark Kent and Superman

The way the F-35 is going ,aybe we can just skip the 5th generation

One of the car mags tested a new Corvette on the track with a GT350 and they gave it to the GT350. And the GT350R is just a bit more.
