On the other hand, including some practical skills in the education system (like basic cooking skills, or how to do your taxes) may be more useful in the future than say... figuring the length of the longest side on a right angle triangle.

Country of residence or weight is a non-issue, you could weigh 1000 pounds and you wouldn’t fall any noticeably faster than if you weighed only 100 pounds - especially when one is only travelling a maximum of 8'.
