I can remember how people were terrified that the Robert Downey Jr/Jude Law version of Sherlock was going to be this humor-driven mockery of the character, but then it turned out to be unusually faithful to the source materials and both movies were (gasp) actually good.

I consider the original TMNT movie as being far better than it had any right to be, doing an unusually good job developing the heroes and creating a believable plot out of obviously campy elements (such as a rat trained in the way of the ninja BEFORE getting mutated by ooze).
