I guess it’s worth noting that the fatality rate from vehicle accidents is substantially higher in the US than Australia? Australia: 5.4 per 100 000 inhabitants/year; USA: 10.6. There are a few different measures, but the USA outstrips Australia on all of them.

Have you seen the per capita tally? Speaking from the antipodes, the US has a population that is over 13 times Australia’s, and over 70 times New Zealand’s. And Hungary has less than 10 million people, but 6 gold medals. So I guess, per capita, all the other countries do a bit more winning?
