Yeah, our hard deadline was 30 days before. In that time, we had a death in the family, another family member become too infirmed to travel, and two more old people fall sick. It sucked. But my parents paid for anyone who fell ill. We did not bill people. That is fucked up.

Also, if it’s an open bar, you generally pay per guest regardless of how much they consume. At my wedding, everyone will have to take a breathalyzer before they leave, and if they haven’t had their allotted booze, they’ll need to stick around until they do. I paid for that wine; you’re gonna DRINK IT AND LIKE IT!

You know, Boston falls short in a lot of ways, but people here are never afraid to tell someone exactly what they think of them. My husband has told me on more than one occasion “you need to try to do a better job of hiding it when you don’t like people.” My response was “I only do that at work.”

ESPECIALLY if the reason people can’t come is because they aren’t bringing their offspring who you specifically said couldn’t come. Sure, a text message saying “mom bailed no babysitter sorry not coming” is quick and easy, but they might have thought they were being polite by not making a big deal about it the day of?

RIGHT? I cannot stand people who make you track them down to RSVP. I had to do this for my wedding and for multiple bridal showers/baby showers I have thrown for friends or family. It is insane. RSVP people. It isn’t hard, all you have to do is check your calendar/decide if you can make it, select a box and drop it in

One of our wedding guests was shot (he’s okay) and couldn’t make it. Another got called into work and said he couldn’t get out of it (I think he actually freaked out about seeing his ex and therefor bailed). People bail. Regardless, it costs WAY more to attend a wedding for most people than the per-person cost of a

Totally get the DESIRE to do this, definitely wouldn’t act upon it. I had several people RSVP to our wedding and no show without so much as a text or a card and would have LOVED in my wildest dreams to do that, but those are dreams and I had to be content in just huffing and puffing and being personally done with

They are going to be DELIGHTFUL when they reproduce and start throwing elaborate parties for their offspring.

Someone missed my wedding because they had to spend the day searching for a suicidal family member (their body, as it turned out). Someone else didn’t come because they allegedly had a stomach virus. People miss weddings for all sorts of reasons, and I don’t know why you’d take it so personally. You pay pretty well in

I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve fixed my boss’s printer by turning it off and then turning it back on again.

I always think of this time of year as Nerd Award Season.

If it’s any consolation, I always “try turning it off and turning it back on” before I call the help desk. I also always say that I tried that before they tell me to do that.

Nnnnnnnn......ooooooooo.....sorry, but no.

Still doing his job better than Kim Davis.

With all due respect, I mentioned everything I’ve learned about it was from a video game, and also, I’ve signed up for updates on Marina Rustow’s in-depth research to learn more.

I think this is actually really awesome. I loved what Jim Henson did (and to an extent, continues to inspire), and how we’re seeing such interesting puppetry in all kinds of places. It is one of my favorite art forms, though I’m no artist (at all, let alone in that genre).

My undergrad thesis advisor won a MacArthur grant last year. I lived in constant terror of academically disappointing her because not only was she a MacArthur Genius, but she was SO FUCKING COOL, and I would always get nervous and stammer when I said hi to her in the local grocery.

Very interested in Marina Rustow’s work. The Caliphate, according to my favorite video game Civilization V, was as powerful as, if not more powerful than, the Roman Empire. The empire stretched well across Asia, into Africa, and even parts of Europe, and flourished with trade and culture. At a time where the Middle

It’s really amazing to see women of all ages represented here, when I first heard of this scholarship for some reason I figured it was only for people of college age, but I guess that’s just my own latent ageism talking. Congrats to all!!!

All these women are fantastic, but I have to admit, the one that intrigued me the most was the dude Basil Twist, because of his name and more importantly because he is
