I imagine they'll want to steer clear of that comparison. The latest Annie remake didn't do well at the box office.

I dare you to listen to Consider Yourself and not sing along.

After the most recent version of Annie flopped, I can't see why a studio would think that this is a good idea.

It's not an assumption. Anyone can see from the casting that things will have to change. Anyone can also read or watch an interview with the director to find out exactly why she chose to make these changes. It has everything to do with her politics. Which, again, is her right as an artist. But it makes me, someone who

It's bad because it doesn't serve the story. It's worse because it changes/eliminates part of the story.

The director, Ava DuVernay, is using AWIT to further her own agenda. She decided to change the race of every main character not because it serves the story (it in fact hinders the story as the characters' European/Celtic heritage is a major plot point in the later books) but rather because she will only work with

I too love the books, and was initially thrilled to hear that a studio was going to attempt to adapt them. But I've had it up to here with identity politics! Would it kill the director to just set her politics aside, and instead focus on making a solid adaptation?

McCartan didn't look the part, but what a voice! He and Lambert were the two bright spots for me.

I know I had fun live tweeting it. Trainwrecks can be fun.

Couldn't agree more about Patrick Page! I was introduced to him via Deaf West's Spring Awakening where he played, unsurprisingly, all the hearing adult males. He was excellent!

This is, by far, the best comment in the entire thread. Kudos!

The production's got a lot going for it. (Minus Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande, both talented in their own right, but both are woefully miscast. I know I won't be able to watch Jennifer Hudson sing Big, Blonde, and Beautiful without wanting to throw things at my tv.) I wonder if they'll be pulling in Ladies Choice

Magnus isn't gay, he's bisexual :)

Yeah, I felt that Fox was actually able to pull off a pretty conservative casting choice while appearing uber progressive (a coup for the network execs, I guess). By casting Cox, who identifies as female, in the role of Frankenfurter the seduction scenes actually became far less risque, at least for a tv audience. The

Okay, my middle school self took that episode very seriously. ABC's marketing team didn't help, "I don't want to die, Dad." They aired that spot every 15 minutes for two solid weeks straight. I was practically having heart palpitations in the days leading up to that episode. Being a 12 year old JTT fangirl was rough.

I agree. I've never gotten the appeal of Roseanne. I wasn't into it as a kid, at all. I've tried watching a few episodes as an adult, and I just don't find it entertaining. I can appreciate how talented the cast was, but I've never found anything about it particularly funny.

I'm really hoping that izombie's able to use Netflix to grow its audience this fall. I'd love to see better ratings for season three.

I was surprised not to see Shadowhunters: Season One on that list. Most of the other ABCFamily (I refuse to say Freeform) shows already stream on Netflix. Why the delay with Shadowhunters?

Now I love Game of Thrones, a lot, but it would have been a fantastic upset to watch The Americans take best drama.

I am generally wary of novel-to-screen adaptations of beloved children's books and A Wrinkle in Time is no exception. I'm not completely opposed to changes as long as they are made purely out of service to the story. These casting choices, however, seem to be motivated solely by identity politics. Ms. DuVernay has
