Being from the midwest, addressing a group of people “guys” is almost an exclusively gender neutral term. And not in the “when it’s a mixed group we default to the male pronoun” sense, but the “a gaggle of girls can still be referred to as ‘guys’” sense.

One co-worker has changed from “boys” to “doggos”. Not a bad substitution in my opinion.

Mostly, it’s awkward to ask because I don’t have a gauge of how “out” said person is comfortable being at work. But if they take the lead and discuss their partner, of if I’ve met the partner before, it’s quite a bit easier to have a casual conversation about them.

I’ve never heard that it cures cancer. Only that it’s highly effective at mitigating the side-effects of chemotherapy like vomiting/nausea, lack of appetite, etc. That was a big argument in favor of medical marijuana because seniors with cancer were illegally baking pot brownies to manage their symptoms.

There’s a lot of diet-related adjustments that can lower your risk of cancer, but once you have cancer, that’s unlikely to save you. It’s like taking calcium supplements after you’ve broken a bone.

English isn’t my parents’ first language, so they always have subtitles and closed caption on too. :D Sometimes they have trouble with understanding non-standard non-American accents, so Shakespeare is a great barrel of fun.

I watched Finding Nemo like that once. Turned on the English subtitles. Apparently Bruce the shark swears constantly. It was quite baffling, as I understand both English and Chinese, and neither audio version warranted the subtitled vulgarity.
