A huge byproduct of oil and gas production also goes to make plastics and rubbers (ha!), mainly crude oil and NGLs. So while it's a nice thought that one day, electricity will be king or solar panel cars will rule, we need plastic and rubber for daily life just as much as we need crude oil for transportation.
