I am not sure why anyone is surprised by the lack of diversity. In the history of the oscars, african americans have only won 32 times. ( and that's including sound mixing). Latinos have a grand total of FOUR ( so yes it IS groundbreaking that two mexicans won that's half the tally!

yeah where are all the latina actors and actresses nominated and getting to play things other than gang members and maids??? Thank goodness it's getting better on television but not very much. I like that shonda cast a hispanic RICH woman and no one noticed heheh

Latinos are very self deprecating and wouldn't be offended however it's a very inappropriate comment . I believe it's his second oscar win...

Wow they need to find better oscar hosts this one was up there for being bad along with james franco. I don't know what happened, he's good at the Tony's.

Everything is awesome is NOT the best song are you kidding me???????! How can you compare the incredibly moving lyrics of Common with a marketing pandering song by the Lonely Island???

Now playing

Yeah I am surprised too. Oh wells. the sequel comes out in fifteen years maybe they will win it then. Reminds me of Honest Trailers parody of it

Yeah it was. Not cool Penn... not cool

YES ... Rosamund Pike was insanely good in Gone Girl. I wish they didn't give A listers the same wins over and over. It gets tiresome.

Yeah not sure what happened there but Oscars is pure politics

Yay for immigrations rights, no bullying , women's equal pay, and other issues and not using time to gobble up on self absorbed speeches ( Ahem Matthew Mcgoughaney)That being said, Neil Patrick Harris was a pretty boring host. Played it too safe. Wasn't even as entertaining as Billy Crystal. They need someone like

Yeah that is super messed up... considering that some of the films nominated weren't even American films. I bet you don't say that shit to British actors. Ugh.

It's almost like everyone got courage from each other's speeches. ( Well Common and Legend's were prob thought out beforehand)

I must have missed that part. Being latina myself I know how much it means for Mexicans for the director to win so it's good he acknowledge latinos . Fun story : Once in Edinburgh Film Festival I went to see a young Gael Garcia Bernal and this director for their film, Amores Perros. After the film I asked the

And then the best picture talked about immigration rights and Mexican politics? Wow for once the speeches weren't boring!

No he didn't he went back and hugged her.

This was such an amazing speech, this along with Arquette and the writer speech from Imitation Game was super moving. I was so annoyed that hardly ANYONE clapped for Common/ Legend as much as they did for Arquette. Common's speech was pure poetry!

way to take it out of context.

No mention of Common and John Legend's amazing speech?

Whooa and now Common's speech was amazing and inspirational too! Very few time used to thank everyone and a lot of time used to talk about inequality in America. Creepy that barely anyone clapped for them.

I wanted to see the camera pan to all the white male actors shifting uncomfortably in their seats over that one.
