The only way to truly achieve self-driving is to get everyone off the roads, so all of the vehicles on the road are self-driving. This way they communicate with each other.

If it was a 2 year old, chances are it was forward facing child seat. Automakers and child seat manufacturers don’t recommend using LATCH for forward facing seats as seatbelts are supposed to be stronger and most new car seats don’t even accommodate LATCH for forward facing seats.
