Actually, I like the fact that Gowron is shown to be more than a fair match for Worf. It demonstrates that Gowron is still a worthy warrior that can command the respect of someone like Martok, in addition to being a self-serving politician. It makes Gowron that much more creditable as Chancellor.

Not to mention Una McCormick's outstanding work on "The Never-Ending Sacrifice", another great DS9 novel.
