The bigger issue with wealth disparity is that most black people that make good money are the first or second generation of doing well. They have no generational knowledge of saving, investing, equity, credit etc.

America has had class based neighborhoods since it has had cities. Europe had them before America was founded. They may not be 5000 years old, but they certainly aren't new.

This blog is so New York centric. DC has been run by the black vote for 30 years and they don't do anything to stop gentrification because they want tax revenue. LA's Hispanic mayor doesn't seem to help them much either.

Property values go down because renters don't feel attached to the neighborhood and treat it like shit.

If you can figure out a way for poor people to wait until they are married to have kids and make sure their kids graduate from high school, they'll be fine. That is why Nee York is almost unlivable for those who don't qualify for subsidies. People who don't work or make poverty level wages get free housing. People who make 40k or above pay ridiculously high rates because the housing stock is taken by people who can't afford it.

According to gawker, they are the only people with rights to have a "neighborhood" whose "culture" shouldn't change. This seems silly as I can't think of any predominately black neighborhoods that are great places to live, learn, and have families. If I am wrong, let me know, but please cite examples.
