Totally get the concept of stealth wealth, but I still don’t understand why anyone would buy a $90k+ Suburban. Isn’t that what the mid-tier GMC version of this car is for?

Tuesday, the EU voted in favor of a ban of gasoline-powered vehicles throughout its 27 nations by the year 2035.
Accurate - and there’s always the Sand Hill Rd VC bros in their Lucids and Rivians.
This “special” feeling is one of the intangible things about full size Land Rovers and Range Rovers that is really hard to explain to people who haven’t owned them before. You don’t so much sit inside, you sit on top of it. We looked at all of the following luxury SUVs, and there’s a reason we are on our 4th RR. The…
If I have a 2019 Range Rover - one year after 2018 mid-life facelift, does that mean I have the 3.0 SC V6 built under contact by Ford, and is that why it’s been so surprisingly reliable? 😆
It looks like a giant, inoffensive oversized RAV4. It’s an adequate appliance and I’m sure they will sell millions of them.
I’m a big Land Rover fan (we have a 2019 Range Rover, and a rusty old 1984 Defender soon to make its way across the pond once we have our paperwork in order. I also don’t like the new Defender) so I am absolutely the target market for this car. It just looks odd, like a fake brand or a generic Grand Theft Auto video…
Enough of the black gloss trim on new cars. It doesn’t matter what brand or how expensive a car is, they automatically attract scratches and swirl marks from the very first trip to the car wash and it just looks cheap.
In some ways this car also competes with the Porsche Taycan Sport/Cross Turismo, not just the Panamera. It’s also a shame the E63 AMG Wagon isn’t available to buy new in the US anymore.
Mercedes wagons are already dead in the US. They only sell the lifted, cladded E450 “All Terrain” - which in some ways is worse than an actual SUV. A station wagon pretending to be an SUV is the antithesis of what a discreet, stealth wealth wagon a Mercedes estate car should be.
Bless your heart, let me ungray your comment.
I’m generally a big Land Rover fan, but I’m not sure this should even warrant being called a facelift. Even I can barely tell the difference between 2018 and 2024. Also, it’s hard to escape the feeling that any Range Rover smaller than a Sport is just a little bit too try-hard. Lots of shiny black plastic and badges…
I do not understand the concept of lining up or standing around to buy something expensive. It’s like the lines you see outside stores like Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Any luxury cars I’ve purchased have been a luxury experience. A man in suit talks me through options, I have nice coffee and then there is some paperwork…
One Californian quirk (amongst many) is probably the California Roll where we don’t actually stop for stop signs. We essentially flash our brake lights, slow down a little but just keep going. We also try to race other cars to stop signs so we can keep moving. Many years ago I was let off a stop sign ticket at a…
Yeah an old Defender is too charming to be scary. We just bought a 1984 90 in the UK for a good price, even with shipping factored in. It is going to be a third car for weekends. Given what we paid for it, we have accepted there will be many days when it will be nothing more than a nice lawn ornament.
The transition for 2 car households will be to have one EV and one ICE simultaneously rather than go cold turkey and switch to EVs. We live in a semi-rural area in Northern California with a Taycan and a 4 year old Range Rover. We do not have a Level 2 home charger. We rely on an EVgo 50KW charger 15 minutes away in…
I think the car market is about to stabilize. By Q3/Q4 this year, new and used car prices will much more palatable. Not cheap, but markups will be reserved for only the rarest of luxury models like a special edition 911 or an oversized G Wagon squared.
Unless you’re absolutely in a bind and need a vehicle immediately, a little patience goes a long way by pre-ordering. You’re able to get the exact vehicle you want with the exact options you want. I pre-ordered my base Taycan with a signed agreement from the dealership at MSRP in December 2021. I was able to spec it…
I’m really glad the person with the 2023 Alfa Romeo hasn’t experienced any problems on day 27 of 2023.
