You can actually see it ping out of the rear wheel well when the top mounting point breaks - I think that a lot of the energy that propelled it on to the balcony was actually the spring unloading.

According to the NYT it seems like that large orange cloud is actually unburned fuel and is making its way over a nearby city. The cloud is toxic and residents are being told to shelter in place, tightly shut windows/doors and not run air conditioning.
I'm surprised that it wasn't detonated by range safety device when it was clearly not going to make orbit... unless it was shooting for a five hundred foot orbit rather than five hundred mile orbit.
