Me too, though it was only twice. First time was in 1993, saw the Allmans and it was one of the first concerts I ever saw. As a budding musician, it was really inspiring.

"You Can't Kill the Rooster" is a classic. Went to a reading of his years ago, and agree in full that hearing him deliver his material is even better than on the page. Talking to him briefly at the signing/meet & greet later was a joy, he was so funny.

He did walk. The deal was over. That's one of the reasons I give them credit: they knew who they were dealing with and that the show he would give them would be uncompromising - i.e. not commercial - and they still made the deal.
