I volunteered for about four months for the ACLU in Philadelphia for their program monitoring police stops. We went through all the police reports for stops and tried to determine if they had cause for the stop. It was mostly stop and frisk stuff but there were also a lot of cars being pulled over. One pattern was

He was trying to trick her. That car was obviously stolen because a black woman can’t possibly have any kind of important state job. (In his mind)

what do you reckon they thought? drug dealer’s girlfriend? high-class sex worker? it had to be one of those two, surely...

It seems pretty clear to me he didn’t know who she was when he pulled her over. You can tell from how nervous he gets when he realizes.

Agreed, more people should have an issue with cops just running tags because it’s easy for them to do. “Reasonable suspicion” should still be some kind of standard, i.e. the driver has to do something to warrant a stop and the tags being run.

Personally, I loved the cop saying “We run tags all the time, that’s how we find out if cars are stolen... Oh this car I’m driving isn’t my car.”

“See, we ran your tags and they came back totally clean, and you’re Black, so we just HAD to solve the mystery!”

The immediate change of tone in his voice when he realizes who she is.

The windows weren’t too dark to see a black lady driving a nice car.

That was my first thought, too. A drug overdose, or alcohol withdrawal, or suicide- people use “heart failure” too often to cover up a death they find embarrassing, because there are so many possible causes of heart failure. Props to his family for coming forward about his struggles, and I hope the attention causes

My friend and I were talking about this, bc 39 is pretty young for your ticker to quit. I said either he was living a secret unhealthy, crazy life, or had a heart defect. I was reluctant to believe the former. I’d always read Nelsan was a delight to work with, in addition to being a spiritual guy and very into his

That’s the thing about alcohol: it’s one of the few things that will kill you if your body has become physically dependent on it. The other one is Benzodiazepines. Pretty much everything else will make you feel like you want to die, but won’t actually kill.

As a recovered alcoholic I can say please get medical help if you stop drinking. I had to be hospitalized three days before going to rehab to prevent this. Don’t be ashamed, and don’t think you can automatically do it on your own.

Bless his heart. Trying to get sober, dies in the process. What a fucking tragedy.

They made another one so...

Glad these 2 found each other and saved the rest of us.

Two guys with guns, so I’m betting family member involved in drugs. I won’t be surprised if I’m wrong and it’s a domestic, though.

But this trainer made generalizations about shelter dogs, not just Lena’s dog. Nice straw man, though.

That’s such dumb logic, because dogs from breeders can have all sorts of behavioral issues (and I say this as someone who is not opposed to responsible breeding). I once got bit in the face by a family member’s dog who was bought as a puppy from a breeder.

Damn. I was about to mildly scold the OP for using anecdotal evidence to completely discount the opinion of the trainer....and then you reminded me of this crazy fact. Yup, there is something like a zero percent chance Dunham isn’t the reason this dog went crazy. Thanks for saving me some embarrassment.
