I’m so heartbroken for him and his family. I loved him so much as an actor. He was so incredibly talented.

I genuinely enjoyed much of the show, if only as a guilty pleasure, until the fairy stuff got into full gear. Then there was a little bit of hate watching, which turned into not watching.

I just read the Vulture piece, thanks for sharing it - it made me cry. His last sentence, the last sentence of the article, is especially heartbreaking now. Ugh. I love Lafayette, and that is absolutely because of Nelsan’s portrayal of him. I dropped off from the show eventually, but I still quote Lafayette and hold

I know everyone is going to give him the praise he deserves for his iconic role as Lafayette, but I want to mention how very good he was as Shinwell on Elementary. He gave that character a depth and dignity I don’t think anyone else could have. So sad that he’s gone so soon, and we don’t get to see all the amazing

I think I was hate-watching it out of some loyalty to the show but also in hopes that it would turn around. Buh, I never finished after season 5 (or 6 maybe?) but Lafayette was always a fantastic character. Really a breath of fresh air when some of the writing became unbearable.

This right here is exactly why I loved him so much on that show. Nelsan played Lafayette with such love and care that it made the audience love and care about him too.

His side eye was pretty much the only thing confirming everyone on the show was nuts.

He became a stand-in for fans by the end. Remember the episode where Andy’s fairy one night stand is giving birth on a table in Bellefleur’s and he’s just having a drink with an expression that says “Yep. Seem about right”?

It could be argued that Lafayette was ever the only genuinely likeable character on TB, entirely because of Mr. Ellis’ immense talent and effortless charm.

And the writing got bad really quickly—I think in the middle of season 2 I realized I was hate-watching the show rather than merely watching it. Lafayette was the only consistently solid part on the show, and it was because Ellis’s talent could take the worst line and deliver it with such flair it was sold.

Even from episode 1, he was - hands down - the best character on the entire show. And when he got to interact with Alfre Woodard, it was just golden.

There were seasons where he was the only likeable character. His talent shined through no matter how bad the writing got.

RIP, La La.

Wow, he was so young. I’ve never seen this show, but I just looked him up and one of the first news stories that came up from before today was an interview where Ellis criticized a former co-star for quitting because that actor didn’t want to play a gay character. That’s a stand up thing to do.

There were times where he was the only likable character on that show. How sad, he was so young.

She’s someone you know you’d never be able to get through to about anything. Her head is so far up her own ass, it’s quite something to see.

It’s not boyfriend over dog in a vacuum.

I am afraid dog was allergic to her and her boyfriend, poor pupper.

Someone who has wanted a dog their entire life but couldn’t have one till now, and must have one now, (fuck the inconvenience for others) is a person in their early 20's, at the oldest. I remember being an asshole, so I guess I get it.
