Exactly. The hybrid powertrain being discussed (EREV) is not really anything new. We’ve been doing that with trains for a long time, and it works well. I think for applications like towing heavy loads, emergency response, search & rescue, or for people living/working in very remote areas or in extreme climates the

The i3 and the Volt died because they had no desire to make and sell the vehicle. I think they were deliberately shot in the foot. Either that or massive incompetence.

Yup. Why GM didn’t expand the Volt PHEV system scaled up to a crossover and then to the Silverado and Tahoe/Suburban back in 2014 is a mystery.

Because more people are preferring the range extended version does not mean the click bait-y headline that more prefer a gas version, just the peace of mind of having a backup for their range anxiety, which I think is a super smart option.

The real answer shouldn’t be targeting the vehicles, but targeting the reasons why so many people are driving at the same time in the first place, and taxing the hell out of those Pig headed CEOs that are still demanding for Return to Office when work can be easily achieved at home. Convenience is the main reason for

But range extension isn’t about being more efficient, it’s about removing/reducing range anxiety. Which, real or not, is a legitimate concern for many buyers.

Why, that’s not the future.  It’s the past.

What exactly even is efficiency? If I’m now only filling up once a month from once a week, that efficient. If I can get 600 miles from a 10 gallon tank or less, that efficient. If I don’t have to add heat pump because I can get the heat from the engine, that’s efficient. That word efficiency is thrown around so many

I think he summaries most truck owners that tow anything of distance. Boats, RVs, SxSs, Snowmobiles, ATVs, utility trailers, etc... all require more of those sweet sweet electrons. That having easy access to a gas station is much better than trying to find a charger.

Love it.

I’m in the same BOAT (literally). An EV would be awesome for my commute, but I own a boat and don’t want a dedicated tow vehicle, so the range extender is perfect for me.  I’ve extremely interested in the scout, but I don’t see any purpose in making a reservation.

I want one WITH the range extender, and very likely will purchase one. But, I don’t see any purpose to the reservations, so I haven’t placed one. I image there are many out there like me.

Those are called EREVs and they’ve been gaining some traction in markets where the charging infrastructure is less than ideal.

For my own use case, I’d go for the range extender one but not the EV-only one. I work from home and have no commute, and I would like something that runs electric-only around town. I also tow my race car long distances and cannot feasibly stop to charge in rural areas with a trailer attached.

EVs will be niche vehicles until charging infrastructure offers the same convenience as the existing fossil fuel infrastructure. Case closed. Plug in hybrids are a necessary transition to an all electric future. Case closed.

I also own and have owned Toyotas. My truck is a 1996 Tacoma I bought new off the lot. We also owned the first gen Prius.
Like it or not, full EV is where we’re going. Toyota and Honda can keep on making hybrids, which might fill a niche for awhile but I think China more or less upped the game and and even Ford’s CEO

Let’s be honest. They didn’t care to make an EV. They did it the same way GM did the EV1, to show they suck. And yes, in the US Rapid Charging infrastructure is greatly behind compares to China and Northern Europe. But Hyundai/Kia seem to be able to produce EVs that are in some ways more advanced (like 800v batteries

DU UR OAN REESERCH!

Okay, so electric and induction just have cooking oil fumes, while gas has gas fumes and cooking oil fumes.  And you think gas is still the winner when it comes to safety?  I’m glad you no longer engineer anything other than stupid comments online.

Even this GLS looks too big for the garage. Like you could fit 1 GLS and a motorcycle. My parents ex house in Connecticut, fit my dad’s jeep, my mom’s minivan, and a riding lawnmower in between...
