I drive a Ford, I’m not going to hate on them, they make some good/compelling products for sure. I just don’t get what Jalopnik wants from Acura. Everything about the MDX redesign (no beak, available captains chairs, real wood, 325hp hybrid option) seems like a step in the right direction.

Lets not take a shit on Volvo.

The last time I was a fan of Acura was when they.... I can’t remember.

I’m fairly certain you have to prove the following at the time of purchase to qualify for a MDX:

Whoa! Its 2016. Guess we have reliable metrics for cars that work and cars that don’t. I’ve posted those sources.

Hello... and welcome to 2016... where Hyundai/Kia reliability and build quality is pretty damn good these days. They’re both FWD biased with AWD options - which will handle most soccer moms terrains of choice. And not sure what you mean by driveability - but if it means what I think it means, then I’m sure both are

Yeah, and the interior still feels subordinate to any competitor. It has the quality of a CR-V with a few more soft touch materials in my opinion.

I’m looking at this MDX inside and out and thinking to myself - the Kia Sorento SX can save someone a good $10k - and they’d likely have 90% of everything this truck is bringing to the table - including arguably better looks. Acura isn’t doing anything differently than they’ve done before - their conundrum is that

Looks like an ugly Honda Pilot to me.

The Acuras just looks weirdly cheap for supposed luxury cars. The Infinities and Lexuses of this world may not be to everyone’s taste but they look like they cost money, and that’s what people are after (among other things).

Nothing Acura has ever done has stood out as luxurious, IMHO. They were like the Asian Volvo for a long time, but without the brand history. Now Volvo's jumping ahead by leaps and bounds, while Acura is still tarting up a Honda minivan. At least the grille is...better?

The Pilot comes pretty close to the non-refreshed MDX... so to answer your question, “almost”.

Never, ever, ever thought I’d say this, but they actually managed to make it look worse by taking away that beaked monstrosity they called a design cue
