The S55 is definitely a capable motor. I was more or less commenting on the fact BMW (the company itsefl) had to resort to water injection when Dinan can offer more hp while still keeping the car under warranty (provided it is installed by a certified BMW dealer). It just seems that, even without the water injection,

I have heard that BMW ‘under-rates’ their engines, however a quick search seems to put the stock power somewhere in the range of 450-460hp.

Don’t worry, I am not completely blind. Honestly, one of the best engines I have ever experience was the S85 (V10) M5...it was an absolute monster on all accounts. And yes, the F1...

I absolutely understand the need for research and engineering for engine tech; lower displacement, forced induction engines are huge in today’s market.

Haha, well i’ll continue the pedantic note, the LT1 (not the LT4 in the Z06) can make 600-660hp NA on pump gas...just give it a cam, lifters, forged pistons and let it breath better. If you want to look at max numbers on the LT4, then you are somewhere in the range of 800-1000hp on pump gas with no water injection.

It just seems that BMW had to go to great lengths to make substantial power out of I6, likely hurting reliability and increasing maintenance... just seems like it would negatively affect the ‘driving experience’.

Good to hear, I imagine with a locker it would have been able to hang with the FJ the majority of the time.

I would actually love to test drive one of the newer 5th gen trail editions. If I were in the market for a new SUV that would be my first choice, unless I wanted to buy a used 100 series land cruiser. Though for the price of a decent used 100 series I would be in the range of a new 4runner. So i’d go with the 4runner

...powered by two Mercury Racing engines...I was hoping AMG had a hand in the power

Haha, OH I know they basically don’t exist at this point. With that said, when I was looking for my 3rd gen I had found a 1997 lx450 with lockers and 101k, unfortunately the seller backed out of the deal claiming ‘reasons’...I was less than pleased. That was in 2014. Ended up buying the 2000 3rd gen with 74k (now at

Forgot to keep typing on that one...yup, a 3rd gen 4runner. Unassumingly capable and you can get a surprising amount of flex out of the rear...wouldn’t trade it for anything. Almost anything that is...I have wanted a land cruiser for over a decade, but it would probably have to be a second car, unless I was able to

Actually that is a pretty trick work-around to get better flex...and yeah, without the articulink it looks like the standard control bar would severely limit the amount of articulation as it would bind the lower arms. But it does look like you might be able to adapt the lower control arms to a standard 2500, which

Very interesting setup. Please correct me if i’m wrong, but it looks like instead of using four links (two links on the top and two links on the lower half of the axle) they used two large lower links and that small link, linking the upper half to the lower to reduce twisting. Just out of curiosity, does this provide

No joke, I’d be on board with a cruise on the Titanic II, by way of arrival to China on the Hindenburg II (provided they could get helium from the US this time).

All day every day...hell, I might even consider buying a ticket. I’m not sure why you’d even think twice...but, but, but TITANIC II...so it shares a name, big deal. Visually it may look similar but it is a vastly different ship...from construction to navigation. And honestly, the original Titanic was a fairly stout

Now can I get one without the giant tablet in the dash?

...you had me at front and rear locking diffs

Speaking of your 3rd gen...any chance we’ll be seeing a new piece on it anytime soon?

If you watch the video it is pretty clear they already did a bit of trimming on the bumpers, that and it appears they are doing their best to minimize steering...and even with that one of the jellybeans had a bit of issue with its front bumper

I always love good 3rd gen...I’m never parting ways with mine
